Zoe, the God Kind of Life

Have you ever heard someone say that something took the life out of them? It may have been a challenging situation that took all of the energy and stamina they had to get through it, and it left them depleted and empty.

This saying makes me think of an electric air pump that is used to inflate an air mattress.  It has two settings; one to inflate and another to deflate.  One direction pumps air into the mattress and brings life to it, the other pulls the air out and leaves it empty.

We can choose what setting we attach to in our own lives.  If we choose sin, we will be attaching to death and it will eventually suck the life right out of us.  If we choose life and connect to Jesus by believing in Him, He will pour life into us and make us whole.  John 20:31 says “but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.”

One of the Greek words for life in the bible is Zoe and means divine life or the God kind of life.   The God who created the universe sent His Son to us so He could share His divine life (Zoe) with us.   When we believe that Jesus is the Son of God, we flip the switch on and He fills us with Zoe, His life. (John 10:10 ” I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”)

When we receive His life, we receive God’s nature and are a new creation.  2 Cor. 5:17 says that: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

It is our choice.  Will we connect to Christ and be filled with His divine life, or connect to what will leave us depleted?
