Following His Voice

Does your prayer closet ever look like an interrogation room?   In this room, you are the one doing all of the talking in your attempt to get God to speak. You use every technique possible in the book as you beg and plead for Him to speak and move in your life, but all you hear is silence.

God is faithful and will direct and guide us, but often trust, waiting, and faith is involved.   We are to know without a shadow of a doubt that our Heavenly Father is always watching and directing every step, even when we don’t see or feel Him.

I think of the Israelites in Exodus 40: 36-37.  They didn’t move forward in the wilderness until the glory cloud of the Lord moved above the tabernacle: “36 Whenever the cloud was taken up from above the tabernacle, the children of Israel would go onward in all their journeys. 37 But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not journey till the day that it was taken up.”

Just as God led the Israelites in the wilderness with the glory cloud, He leads us today with His voice, and we are to wait and move with Him and not get ahead of Him.   John 10:27 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”

Often I say this declaration: “I know my Father’s voice, and no other voice will I follow.”   This positions and aligns my heart to stay on His path for me.  I am affirming that I do know my Father’s voice, and will I follow Him and no other, and when I can’t hear Him as loud and clear as I do at other times, I keep trusting, knowing He is there, and I wait on His leading before I move.  I know that He will “never leave or forsake me” as Hebrews 13:5 says, and He will “lead and guide me into all truth” John 16:13.
