Who is This?

As Palm Sunday approaches, let's reflect on Matthew 21:8-11 "And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! ’Hosanna in the highest!” And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, “Who is this? ”So the multitudes said, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”

This passage of scripture describes what we know today as Palm Sunday.  It is a reflection of Jesus's triumphal entry into Jerusalem and the first day of events leading up to Jesus's death and resurrection. The great multitudes singing "Hosanna to the Son of David" as they laid their cloaks and palm branches on the road in front of Jesus showed a display of honor and submission that is paid to royalty and homage to a king.  In every shout of "Hosanna," they were crying out "Oh save! rescue us our savior."

If the great multitude of people weren't following Him in loud adoration and celebration, the people of the city may not have known who this man riding on a donkey into their city was because Matthew 21:11 says the

people asked "who is this?" It was the people's expression and response to Jesus that got their attention.  They were so moved by the multitude's cries of praise and homage to the King, they had to inquire who Jesus was.

The multitude knew their Savior had finally come as the scriptures had promised and they weren't afraid to shout it!

How about us?  What is our expression when Jesus enters our lives?  Would others know that He is near because of our exuberant praise, honor and gratitude towards Him, so much that they ask "Who is this?" Or does He enter, and no one notices?
