I Know Whom I Have Believed
While imprisoned, Paul made a powerful statement in 2 Timothy 1:12 “I know whom I have believed.” It is one thing to believe in someone, but another thing to truly know them. When you really KNOW someone, it changes what you BELIEVE about them.
For example, have you ever had a first impression of someone, and once you got to know them, you saw them in a whole new light because you saw their heart and character? You developed a respect and a trust for that person.
The same is true in our relationship with God. As we mature from merely believing in Him to truly knowing Him as Paul did in 2 Tim. 1:12:
We will not only see Him differently but will trust His Word in a greater capacity.
We will be “fully persuaded that what God has promised, He will perform.” Romans 4:21.
We will stand on Him like a rock and not be moved. Psalms 62:6 “He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress; I will not be shaken.”
God’s Word is packed full of promises and serves as a foundation to stand on in the storms of life. Just as we have to get to know someone in order to believe and trust their words, we have to truly know God in order to trust what He said in His Word.
Our faith isn’t meant to change as our circumstances and environment change. Since His Word is consistent, we too will be consistent when we stand on it at all times. Anchor yourself in the Word and hold on to the truth with a tenacity and you will weather the storms in life.
Putting these verses together make up a prayerful declaration: “I know Him whom I have believed and I put my confidence and trust in Him. I am fully persuaded that what God has promised, He will perform. I stand on Him, my rock and I am anchored in Him and not shaken when the storms of life come my way.”
